What is Ethereum?

Ethereum is a public blockchain launched in 2015 that runs programs, not just payments. Those programs are called smart contracts, and they power most of what people mean by crypto beyond Bitcoin: stablecoins like USDC, tokens, NFTs and lending apps. Ether (ETH) is the coin that pays for using the network. People buy it to use those apps, to stake it, and to hold it as an investment in the network itself.

The price above comes from supply and demand across exchanges worldwide, trading around the clock. No central bank, no closing bell, so the number keeps moving.

Three things drive most of the movement. Network usage: every transaction on Ethereum burns a small amount of ETH in fees, so busy periods reduce supply and quiet periods do the opposite. Ethereum has no fixed maximum supply, which is why the max supply tile above reads "No max". Staking: since 2022 the network runs on proof of stake, and ETH locked up by stakers is ETH not sitting on exchanges. That number moves with the rewards on offer. The wider market: interest rates, regulation and risk appetite move Ethereum the way they move most crypto, and it often follows Bitcoin's direction.

Ethereum has fallen by more than half from a peak on more than one occasion, and it has climbed back. Nobody knows which comes next. This page tells you what it costs now, how it has moved, and how to buy it if you decide to.

The live price is at the top of this page, refreshed continuously from global market data. It is the market rate — the exact amount you pay is shown at checkout before you confirm, including any costs.
Ethereum trades globally, 24 hours a day, with its price set purely by supply and demand. There is no central bank steadying it and no closing bell pausing it. News, regulation and shifts in demand all show up in the price immediately, which makes it more volatile than most traditional assets.
The all-time high, and how far the current price sits below it, are both in the market stats above. They update as the market does.
Yes. You buy by amount of money, not by whole coins, so you can buy a fraction of a ETH.
No. Nobody can reliably predict crypto prices, and anyone claiming otherwise is guessing. What we give you instead is live data, price history, and a clear quote before you commit to anything. Whether and when to buy is your decision.
