{"id":7790,"date":"2022-12-05T12:45:59","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T12:45:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/?p=7790"},"modified":"2022-12-05T14:50:58","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T14:50:58","slug":"bitcoin-rallies-above-17000-as-macro-outlook-improves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/en\/blog\/bitcoin-rallies-above-17000-as-macro-outlook-improves\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin Rallies Above $17K as Macro Outlook Improves"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Interviews with Sam Bankman-Fried last week ensured that issues with FTX could not be forgotten, however, they were not enough to stop Bitcoin from rallying past $17,000.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With investor focus on macroeconomic fundamentals, Bitcoin pushed higher as the Fed Chair, Jerome Powell, suggested that further interest rate hikes could begin to slow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sentiment was accompanied by new on-chain data highlighting that the majority of Bitcoin investors have now entered accumulation mode.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, investors remained cautious as fresh reports circulated regarding the financial strength of one of the industry\u2019s largest lending platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Bitcoin pushes above $17,000 after dovish remarks from Fed<\/em><\/li><li><em>Sam Bankman-Fried speaks for first time since FTX collapse<\/em><\/li><li><em>Genesis Global Trading continues to spark concern<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bitcoin-pushes-above-17-000-after-dovish-remarks-from-fed\"><strong>Bitcoin pushes above $17,000 after dovish remarks from Fed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fed Chair, Jerome Powell, spoke on Wednesday and highlighted that the US Central Bank would likely only raise interest rates by a further 50 basis points during the next Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Powell, the Fed had witnessed encouraging signs that both inflation and the job market were slowing; key signs that the Fed is looking at to indicate if further interest rate hikes are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the hope of fewer interest rate hikes on the horizon, Bitcoin rallied and recorded a 4.4% daily increase on Wednesday. The world\u2019s leading cryptocurrency has since held support at $17,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stock indices of the Dow Jones, S&amp;P 500, and Nasdaq reacted similarly, recording respective daily increases of 2.2%, 3.1%, and 4.6%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a macroeconomic perspective, eyes now fall on the release of US Consumer Price Index data which is scheduled to be released on Dec. 13th. Another fall in inflation is likely to solidify the Fed\u2019s dovish stance ahead of December\u2019s FOMC meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bullish price movement in Bitcoin was also reflected in a recent report published by on-chain intelligence provider, <a href=\"https:\/\/insights.glassnode.com\/the-week-onchain-week-48-2022\/\">Glassnode<\/a>. According to one of the company\u2019s metrics, the Accumulation Trend Score, Bitcoin investors have now moved into a period of accumulation; a phase which in the past has marked the end of sharp sell-offs in both 2018 and 2020.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The metric moves between 1 and 0 depending on whether more Bitcoin investors are accumulating or distributing BTC holdings. Bankman-Fried had been the CEO and founder of both FTX and investment firm, Alameda Research, which have both now filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and have left millions of customers without funds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With bankruptcy filings showing an apparent lack of accounting policies and the misuse of customer&#8217;s funds, the collapse has left many unanswered questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reportedly against the wishes of his legal team, the ex-CEO dialed into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/01\/business\/dealbook\/sam-bankman-fried-dealbook-interview-transcript.html\">New York Times<\/a> DealBook summit for an interview with New York Times columnist, Andrew Ross Sorkin. He phoned in from an undisclosed location in the Bahamas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview was likely far tougher than Bankman-Fried may have anticipated and appeared to do very little to quell the anger of FTX customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When questioned on whether FTX had lent customer\u2019s funds to Alameda Research, Bankman-Fried continued to push that the collapse of FTX was the result of the market crash rather than the mismanagement of customer&#8217;s digital assets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bankman Fried claimed that he \u201cdidn\u2019t knowingly commingle funds\u201d as he continued to fidget in his seat and nervously look down at the floor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him the mismanagement of funds was the result of an accounting mistake due to a discrepancy between audited financials and FTX\u2019s exchange dashboard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, when pressed on his criminal liability in the situation, Bankman-Fried responded, \u201cI don\u2019t personally think that\u2026 that\u2019s not what I\u2019m focusing on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s going to be a time and place to think about myself and my future. I\u2019ve had a bad month. Right now, that\u2019s not what matters here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ex-CEO subsequently joined an interview with Good Morning America on Thursday, Dec. 1st, and continued to deny any knowledge regarding the \u201cimproper use\u201d of customers\u2019 funds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview at the New York Times DealSummit was received poorly by members of the cryptocurrency community, who believed the interview provided no answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lefteris Karapetsas, the founder of a crypto portfolio app responded on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LefterisJP\/status\/1598096713558142978?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1598096713558142978%7Ctwgr%5E30db6282f995bcf49b527ceb34707e697e726b8f%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcointelegraph.com%2Fnews%2Fcrypto-community-weighs-in-on-sbf-s-apology-tour\">Twitter<\/a> stating \u201cA man who stole $10B, @SBF_FTX just got interviewed, portrayed almost as a victim, and got applause at the end.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Bitcoin enthusiast and crypto community member, Duo Nine <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DU09BTC\/status\/1598141079358169091?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1598141079358169091%7Ctwgr%5E30db6282f995bcf49b527ceb34707e697e726b8f%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcointelegraph.com%2Fnews%2Fcrypto-community-weighs-in-on-sbf-s-apology-tour\">tweeted<\/a> \u201cImagine receiving a round of applause for creating a 10 billion dollar ponzi. The world has lost touch with reality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This sentiment was echoed by the CEO of Galaxy Digital, Mike Novogratz, who said during an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-12-01\/novogratz-says-bankman-fried-is-delusional-over-ftx-collapse?sref=323RPL5z\">Bloomberg<\/a> that Bankman-Fried appeared \u201cdelusional.\u201d He continued, \u201cthe reality is that Sam and his cohorts perpetuated a fraud. Since then, there have been several reports that the company has hired an investment bank, Moelis &amp; Company, to explore the company\u2019s options, one of which includes filing for bankruptcy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/W7xIheazWVQmN9nDskNTCFDmxiDwqA-jQ4fRKctYciszZL6TPsI8_X3zAhjhoGJnBB3OyzGeA77F2djm32ngrgwn1v9QqMZc2pd31TcSXbUe2gHFcvcA1McngAJtnTaBpS6T99sOrg4T_ZrYkAKwix-yugc9XZvxMBFNb3VIj1rzSEzSWCd9EwJFYaHpnQ\" crypto-focused companies, including Gemini, that utilizes Genesis in the provision of their Earn program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the latest Financial Times report, the Gemini exchange has now formed a creditor\u2019s committee to retrieve the $900 million worth of funds owed by Genesis and its parent company Digital Currency Group (DCG).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly after news of the creditor\u2019s committee, CoinDesk separately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2022\/12\/04\/genesis-creditor-groups-loans-amount-to-18b-and-counting-sources\/\">reported<\/a> that another creditor\u2019s group was in the process of recovering $1.8 billion worth of Genesis loans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the fears surrounding Genesis, Bitcoin prices continued to climb over
