As investors grapple with these new variables many have reduced risk-on positions. The fall across cryptocurrency markets was echoed within equities, where the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 saw equally bearish ends to the week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-8c43e16b-84d8-4fe4-8640-05a4366662b8\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"8c43e16b-84d8-4fe4-8640-05a4366662b8\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">The most significant price dip was seen early on Saturday morning as the price of Bitcoin dropped by more than $10,000 in an hour. Although falling rapidly to lows of $41,900, prices quickly pushed up from the lows and settled back at $49,000. Even though recovery was quick, the drop in value across the entire cryptocurrency market resulted in over $1 billion worth of positions being liquidated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-47b77ec6-474f-4814-aadf-ffbde5d8527a\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"47b77ec6-474f-4814-aadf-ffbde5d8527a\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">As markets cascaded, Bitcoin market sentiment swung heavily towards fear, as depicted by the widely adopted <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BitcoinFear\/status\/1467290149256105984\">Bitcoin Fear and Greed<\/a> Index. On Sunday, with Bitcoin sitting at $49,249, the Fear and Greed Index depicted a score of 18 &#8211; indicating that \u2018Extreme Fear\u2019 was still the overwhelming market sentiment. The purchase was worth a reported $414 million.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-0dc857dd-f90b-481b-9d6b-38043af2c6e8\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"0dc857dd-f90b-481b-9d6b-38043af2c6e8\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">Michael Saylor, the company\u2019s CEO, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/saylor\/status\/1465305537210458115\">announced the acquisition via Twitter<\/a> and outlined that the company now holds an impressive 121,044 BTC on its balance sheet. At the time, this equated to approximately $3.57 billion. The only country that holds Bitcoin as legal tender acquired a further 150 BTC at an average buy price of $48,670. However, last week the Fed\u2019s Chair Jerome Powell, confirmed that policymakers could likely vote to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/11\/30\/powell-says-fed-will-discuss-speeding-up-bond-buying-taper-at-december-meeting.html\">remove quantitative easing efforts sooner<\/a> so that rising inflation could be battled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-44d4d4cf-b22c-4d8a-ae15-f2d0015eadf0\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"44d4d4cf-b22c-4d8a-ae15-f2d0015eadf0\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">Speaking during a Senate committee Powell provided his thoughts moving forward. \u201cAt this point, the economy is very strong and inflationary pressures are higher, and it is, therefore, appropriate in my view to consider wrapping up the taper of our asset purchases, which we actually announced at the November meeting, perhaps a few months sooner.
