The news resulted in many investors taking a classic risk-off approach which caused both traditional and cryptocurrency markets to slide into the weekend. The S&amp;P 500 fell 2.3% on Friday, while bitcoin experienced an 8% fall. Although falling 8%, bitcoin managed to find a foothold at $54,500 over the weekend before recovering to $56K on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-9149b619-ccec-4991-8c09-8b4b8ace0661\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"9149b619-ccec-4991-8c09-8b4b8ace0661\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">The new coronavirus variant, now formally known as Omicron, was initially detected in Botswana, South Africa, and Hong Kong. It was the first country in history to do so. As a result, the country has been stocking its treasury with BTC during every momentary slide in the cryptocurrency markets. As the price of bitcoin dropped last week to $54,000 the President, Nayib Bukele, was quick to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nayibbukele\/status\/1464307422793715716\">tweet<\/a> that another purchase had been made thanks to the discount.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-6ff80ef2-56eb-4513-9edf-1719567340bc\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"6ff80ef2-56eb-4513-9edf-1719567340bc\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/el-salvador-adds-nearly-25-mln-bitcoin-state-coffers-says-president-2021-10-27\/#:~:text=Overall%2C%20El%20Salvador's%20treasury%20holds,data%2C%20worth%20nearly%20%2466%20million.\">Reuters<\/a>, the country\u2019s BTC holdings stood at 1,120 on October 28, 2021. This latest purchase could extend the total holdings up to approx. 1,220. After the announcement of Bitcoin City last week, it is believed the country also hopes to utilize half of its $1 billion bitcoin bond for a further BTC investment. This could add another 1000 coins to the portfolio. As part of that upgrade, the blockchain began burning a base fee for every transaction. According to data collected by <a href=\"https:\/\/watchtheburn.com\/\">watchtheburn.com<\/a>, that upgrade has now resulted in over 1 million ETH being taken out of circulation. At the time of writing, that 1 million ETH would have been equivalent to $4 billion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-b33a0705-14e2-4948-9d63-43277e3fad7f\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"b33a0705-14e2-4948-9d63-43277e3fad7f\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">The token burning mechanism was implemented to reduce the inflationary characteristics of ETH. For each new block added to the blockchain new ETH is created and rewarded to miners. While 1 million has been burnt since August, 1.5 million ETH have also been created. Many developers and users are still unable to utilize the Ethereum network due to the level of economic weight required. As a result of the continual pain point, Ethereum\u2019s co-founder, Vitalik Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/notes.ethereum.org\/@vbuterin\/data_sharding_roadmap\">published a new proposal<\/a> over the weekend &#8211; EIP-4488.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-17b0a23b-7688-4b2f-9ffe-465661f2df98\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"17b0a23b-7688-4b2f-9ffe-465661f2df98\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">The proposal will focus on Layer 2 solutions. Currently, Layer 2 solutions, that sit atop the Ethereum blockchain are the only affordable way to utilize the blockchain. The solutions achieve lower fees thanks to using technology such as ZK Rollups or Optimistic Rollups &#8211; sometimes offering up to 100x lower fees than Ethereum. However, even they are now becoming too expensive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-22b11ae0-13de-4e94-9ecb-cd1169c19c9e\" class=\"wp-block block-editor-block-list__block has-selected-ui\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"group\" data-block=\"22b11ae0-13de-4e94-9ecb-cd1169c19c9e\" data-type=\"core\/paragraph\" aria-label=\"Block: Paragraph\">\n<p class=\"rich-text block-editor-rich-text__editable wp-block-paragraph\" role=\"textbox\" aria-multiline=\"true\" aria-label=\"Paragraph block\">Developers have suggested lowering the transactional call data, which should then help to reduce Layer 2 gas costs. Instead, the purchase was completed by a company called Metaverse Group, which is a subsidiary of tokens.com. Metaverse Group was established for the sole purpose of acquiring digital real estate. A task which it appears to be taking extremely seriously.
