The most interesting stand-out was the fact that crypto investors are\u00a0<strong>10% more likely to value being successful at work, and 7% more likely to value learning new skills than gold owners<\/strong>, of whom 73% place spending time with their family as the second-most important value in life.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>There was one key similarity between gold and cryptocurrency investors, and that was financial security. Both groups valued being financially secure as the most important thing in life.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gender\">Gender<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" class=\"wp-image-3736\" src=\"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Gender-How-Investors-Differ.png\" alt=\"An illustration showing the gender of investors in crypto vs gold\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Gender-How-Investors-Differ.png 800w, https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Gender-How-Investors-Differ-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Gender-How-Investors-Differ-768x576.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The most interesting difference between gold and crypto investors comes down to gender. Just\u00a0<strong>28%<\/strong>\u00a0of cryptocurrency holders are women, compared to\u00a0<strong>47%<\/strong>\u00a0of gold holders.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This makes\u00a0<strong>72%\u00a0<\/strong>of cryptocurrency investors male,\u00a0compared to just<strong>\u00a053%\u00a0<\/strong>of gold investors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As we covered in our previous blog<a href=\"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/en\/blog\/do-you-know-how-much-bitcoin-is-worth-then-youre-in-the-minority\/\">\u00a0<em>Do You Know How Much Bitcoin Is Worth?<\/em><\/a>\u00a0there appears to be a significant gender discrepancy when it comes to cryptocurrency.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-age\">Age<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" class=\"wp-image-3738\" src=\"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Age-Is-Cryptocurrency-a-Young-Persons-Game.png\" alt=\"An illustration showing the age of investors in crypto vs gold\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Age-Is-Cryptocurrency-a-Young-Persons-Game.png 800w, https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Age-Is-Cryptocurrency-a-Young-Persons-Game-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/xcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Age-Is-Cryptocurrency-a-Young-Persons-Game-768x576.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>When we segment the data by age, it shows that the majority of gold and cryptocurrency holders are between 16 and 34.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>However, younger people are more likely to invest in cryptocurrency. Nearly half (<strong>46%<\/strong>) of gold investors are older than 34, compared to just over a third (<strong>36%<\/strong>) of those who have invested in cryptocurrency.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-marital-status\">Marital Status<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Your investment portfolio is usually related to where you are in life at the moment. Retirees and property owners may prefer slower, safer investments, while younger investors may prefer riskier, more lucrative investments.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As a result of this, there are differences between the marital and property status of gold and crypto investors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>More gold investors are married with children compared to crypto investors who, on average, tend to be single with no children.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>21%<\/strong>\u00a0of cryptocurrency investors are renters, while only\u00a0<strong>15%<\/strong>\u00a0of gold holders rent their property. Knowing where your market resides is a massive advantage and, it turns out, there are clear social media preferences between each type of investor.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Cryptocurrency investors vastly prefer Instagram and Facebook, with\u00a0<strong>9.9%<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>19.1%<\/strong>\u00a0of holders spending their time there compared to gold\u2019s\u00a0<strong>6.3%<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>14.3%<\/strong>. Gold holders, however, are much more popular on Twitter, with\u00a0<strong>24.3%<\/strong>\u00a0saying they\u2019d prefer to hang out there compared to cryptocurrency\u2019s\u00a0<strong>17.7%<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The reason why each demographic uses social media is different, too. Of course, both are fantastic, but people will always find themselves in one of these two camps. So, how do cryptocurrency and gold investors fair with this question?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Gold investors are more likely to own a cat than cryptocurrency holders (<strong>45%<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>38%<\/strong>), while cryptocurrency holders tend to be \u2018dog people\u2019 (<strong>43%<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>38%<\/strong>).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Can we read too much into this data? Probably, but it\u2019s an interesting comparison nonetheless. The next time you see someone saying they\u2019re a dog person, maybe it\u2019d be a good idea to introduce them to crypto.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-all-this-data-mean\">What Does All This Data Mean?<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>What should we make of all this data, then? Well, while there are clear differences between both groups, these mean there are opportunities to grow cryptocurrency\u2019s appeal in other demographics.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Rob Frye, Xcoins CEO, says:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>\u201cIf bitcoin is to succeed in the mainstream then it needs support from all demographics. No-one is stopping women from entering or investing the crypto space, but little is being done to encourage them either.<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>With data suggesting that female investors view cryptocurrency as a riskier investment, it\u2019s clear that more needs to be done in this area to educate and inform people of what risks cryptocurrency actually carries instead of letting assumptions hinder the growth of the asset.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Bitcoin recently fell 20% from its recent all-time high of $58,000 but has since bounced back above $59,000.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Rob Frye went on to add:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em>\u201cBitcoin still remains up over seven-fold compared to a year ago. Seeing a dip like this after its record growth is completely normal and healthy.
